Arijit Singh’s career began at the young age of 18 with the reality TV show, ‘Fame Gurukul’, where he was eliminated because of audience polls, securing a sixth place. Sanjay Leela Bhansali realized his potential while on the show and instantly offered him the song ‘Yun Shabnami’ for his upcoming movie, Saawariya. However, eventually, the script was altered, and this song was no longer needed, hence was never released.

He then participated in 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil and won prize money of 10Lac, which he used to build a recording studio for himself. He worked as a music producer, programmer, and chorus supervisor for directors like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Mithoon, and Pritam.

It was 2011 (6 years to Fame Gurukul) when a song with Arijit as the lead singer was released – Phir Mohobbat, a Mithoon composition. He dubbed for seniors in songs like Raabta (Agent Vinod) and Uska Hi Banana (1920 Evil Returns). The very sensational Vishal-Shekhar composition ‘Duaa’ was an Arijit Singh song, for which he received the Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Male Playback Singer.

He was nominated for the same category for ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil’ (Barfi!). His first major breakthrough and the biggest benchmark in his career was set when he signed the album of ‘Aashiqui 2.’ His career took flight from the fame that ‘Tum Hi Ho’ had collected.
